1. Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper 17 (-10) Fast-Pitch Softball Bat

This company has a reputation for making great bats for both baseball and softball and this model certainly didn’t disappoint. Louisville Slugger had made a bat here that is both easy to handle and will help you make solid contact when hitting too. Every one of us that tried it had nothing but good things to say about it.

It is also a sleek looking bat that is made using solid 3-piece construction. Louisville Slugger backs this product up with a 1-year warranty also.

  • What we Liked about it
This bat has a really nice extended sweet spot on it. Not only can you hit the ball hard but you can generate some good distance with it too. It also is weighted really well so it seems to be in total control when swinging it. Simply put this bat has a great feel when using it.
  • Some potential drawbacks
The price of this bat most certainly is a drawback for some. There are also those that may think the grip on the bat is a little too thick but this can be taken off and replaced with thinner grip tape.

2. DeMarini CF9 Insane (-10) Fast-Pitch Bat

Exactly like the name implies, this fast-pitch softball bat by the reputable DeMarini Company is insane in many ways. It is a great softball bat that really impressed everyone here that tried it. Even the looks of this bat can be described as insane but that is all part of this bat’s uniqueness.

This is a composite barrel bat that is weighted very nicely. You can generate a really fast swing speed with it which is so important when hitting in fast-pitch softball. It really has a larger than a normal sweet spot on it too. You get a 1-year warranty with this bat also.

  • What we Liked about it
This bat is approved for use in games sponsored by many different softball sanctioning bodies. Since it is approved for use in ASA, USSSA, NSA, ISA and ISF events; you don’t need to buy several different bats in order to comply with each sanctioning bodies games.
  • Some potential drawbacks
This bat is slightly end loaded so if you are not a power hitter it may not be right for you. Unfortunately, some buyers may find the price of this bat a little on the insane side too. The color scheme does take a little getting used to.

3. Louisville Slugger Xeno Plus 17 (-10) Fast-Pitch Softball Bat

This is yet another very fine bat from Louisville Slugger that we really liked. It seems to have just the right combination of speed and power when hitting with it. That is a big bonus for those hitters that like to hit for both average and power. It gets high marks from all of us here.

It all starts with what is best described as this bats precision composite construction. This bat has a stiffer feel to it and we believe that is why you can hit a softball so hard with it. The balls really jump off of it when you strike them.

  • What we Liked about it
Simply put, the way that bat is balanced is incredible. That alone should help improve the hitting performance of anyone that uses it. This is one of the most affordable bats on the list with how well made it is.
  • Some potential drawbacks
As with some of the Louisville Slugger bats, some users might think the grip is too thick for them. The barrel of this bat does not seem to be quite as big as on some of the other model fast-pitch softball bats that we tested.

4. Demarini 2016 CF8 Fast-Pitch Bat

This is one of the most interesting bats that we tested and even its looks were received with different points of view. Everyone seemed to have one thing that concerned them about this softball bat. Overall though it got really high marks from all of us and we have no problem recommending it for purchase.

When hitting with this bat you can certainly generate a lot of pop with it. You will hit for some power with it too because it has a very generous sweet spot for making solid contact.

  • What we Liked about it
The composite construction of this bat makes it really light. That means you can easily generate the bat speed you need to hit a softball coming at you fast. It was easy to make really good contact when hitting with this bat because of the speed and control you have when using it.
  • Some potential drawbacks
Even though we feel this bat will help greatly improve most hitters performance, this bat is definitely on the pricey side for those on a strict bat budget. You probably don’t want to let your teammates use it because we are not sold on this bats durability with heavy use.

5. Louisville Slugger LXT Plus Fast-Pitch (-8) Softball Bat

The LXT Plus has a little different weight to length ratio than many of the bats that we tested but we all were in agreement here that we liked it. It is a composite bat that seems to be really solidly built.

This is a fantastic bat for hitters that don’t like the sweet spot of their bats so stiff. That makes it a great bat for contact hitters that are more concerned with getting on base than hitting the ball out of the park all of the time.

  • What we Liked about it
This bat was very easy on your hands even when mishitting a pitched softball. There is very little vibration felt in the handle when striking the ball. It also is a bat that feels like it flexes a little while hitting which made it easier to control which field you hit the ball to.
  • Some potential drawbacks
There appears to be the need to allow for a break in period with this bat. It seemed to respond much better to those who hit with it after a few others had tried it.

6. DeMarini 2016 CF8 Insane Fast-Pitch Bat (-10)

New - DeMarini 2016 CF8 Insane Fastpitch Bat (-10)This is yet another style of DeMarini’s popular CF8 fast-pitch softball bat. It features a different color scheme that is a little wild like all the other designs in the CF8 ‘Insane’ line. Don’t let the vibrant colors fool you though; this is one excellent fast-pitch softball bat. You can really hit a ball hard with it if you size it right.

This bat from DeMarini has a really nice sweet spot. Its composite construction really gives the ball a lot of pop when coming off this bat too. The bat is very soundly constructed and comes with DeMarini’s standard 1-year warranty.

  • What we Liked about it
This bat is really light in nature. That means it gives you a much better chance against really fast pitchers because you can swing the bat around quicker. It is definitely a bat that should increase your chances greatly of making contact with a fast-pitched softball.
  • Some potential drawbacks
As with the other CF8 model designs this bat can be a little to the expensive side for some people. Some of us who tried it were not thrilled with what DeMarini calls their ‘dish end cap’.

7. Louisville Slugger Xeno Plus Fast-Pitch (-11) Softball Bat

If you are into generating bat speed when it comes to hitting in fast-pitch softball then this might just be the bat for you. It has the lightest weight to length bat ratios of any of the models we tested.

It is yet another nice composite bat from Louisville Slugger. It not only feels good when swinging it but it looks good too. It is a very low friction and low vibration bat that also comes with a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer.

  • What we Liked about it
Bring on the fastest pitchers you have because you can hit them with this bat. As we mentioned before you can really achieve fast swing speeds with it. The improved grip on this bat will also help you with your swing.
  • Some potential drawbacks
If you play in a league that does not have a lot of quality pitchers then this bat may not work for you. If you are facing a slower pitcher you will have the tendency to swing to fast and miss. Lighter bats also get to a point where they are harder to control when swinging than a little heavier bat too.

The Easton ‘Mako’ is a high-performance bat that looks great too. When hitting with it this bat has a real solid feel and the ball just seems to jump right off it. You get a lot of pop with this fast-pitch bat for sure.

  • What we Liked about it
Swing speed, swing speed, swing speed. What else can I say? It is amazing with this bat and the superior balance this bat has only enhances your swing that much more. We all feel you will definitely benefit when using this bat at the plate. It also has features one of the best grips that we have felt on any of the bats we tested.

9. Easton SRV6B Synge-11.5 Baseball Bat

This is another nice overall bat from Easton. It keeps with their tradition of making softball bats that are very lightweight. It is the second lightest bat of all of those that we reviewed but it still can really help you hit for average and is tremendous for bat control when bunting too.

The Easton ‘Synge’ is a good looking bat with a generous size barrel and a solid composite construction. It is a one-piece bat that is low in vibration and very easy to hit with. It also comes with a 1-year warranty on it.

  • What we Liked about it
This bat is great for smaller less powerful players. It is lightweight and well balanced, to say the least. It is also one of the most affordable bats of the ones we have reviewed here. Like the other Easton bats, we reviewed it seems to have a really nice grip on it too.

  • What we Liked about it
What is the best thing about this fine bat? It has to be the price. It is a bat that means even fast-pitch players that are on a tight equipment budget can still afford to own their own quality bat. Despite its price, it still has a one year warranty too.
  • Some potential drawbacks
This is another bat that seems to trade some of the power you can generate for increased bat speed. That means it is definitely not a bat to use if you consider yourself a power hitter.

Buying Guide: How to Choose a Fast-Pitch Softball Bat

Best Fastpitch Softball Bats

We have mentioned how important piece of equipment the proper bat is to your success when hitting in slow pitch softball. That is why it is essential to purchase the right bat for you or your child. Consider it the same as when shopping for clothes; if the fit is not right it just won’t work well so it’s very important to get it right. What does it take to get the right fast-pitch bat for you or your children? Here are some important considerations when buying a fast-pitch softball bat.

6 Things To Consider Before Buying A Fast-Pitch Softball Bat

  1. Cost

Whenever you are shopping for something you have to consider how much that item costs and there is a reason we put it first on our list. Often the easiest way to make a selection of a product when shopping is to eliminate items from consideration and price usually will do that. It’s no different when shopping for the proper fast-pitch softball bat.

It’s no secret fast-pitch softball bats come in all different price ranges. Quite frankly some of them are so expensive that not everyone can afford them or is willing to pay that type of money for one. So one of the first things you should do when shopping for a fast-pitch softball bat is to set a price range that is acceptable for your bat purchase and don’t even look outside that range when shopping.

  2. Weight

Let’s face it; in fast-pitch softball, you stand only a few feet away from a pitcher that hurls a ball at you very fast speeds. It makes hitting a softball very difficult, to say the least. That is why bat speed is so important in fast-pitch softball and the key to generating bat speed is to have a bat that is light enough for you to swing easy.

That is why it is very important to shop for a bat that is the right weight for you or your child. This is especially important if you or your child is smaller in stature because you will need a lighter weight bat that you can swing quicker.

  3. Length

There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to selecting the length of any fast-pitch softball bat that you want to purchase. Many people think that you want a bat that is as long as possible so you can hit balls that are further away from you but this is entirely not true.

For one there becomes a point where a longer bat will hurt your bat control especially if that extra length adds weight to the bat. You also have what is known as a strike zone and many times you do not need great length in a bat to fully cover that strike zone. There is often no benefit to hitting a ball that is not in that strike zone so why buy a bat that allows you to do that.

You can choose the length of your bat by using all sorts of complicated charts but the best way is to judge the length of the bat you need by standing in the batter’s box. Take your normal batting stance and if you can touch the front outside corner of the plate with your bat by bending just a little then that bat length is ok for you.

  4. Construction

Fast-pitch softball bats usually come in one of three different kinds of material and they are as follows:

    • Composites
This is the way almost all softball bats are trending these days. And why not; they are lightweight bats that help you make good contact and hold up well for a very long time under most conditions. They are versatile bats also because they can be used in simple 1-piece construction bats or can be used to make more complicated 2 and 3-piece bats. Look for these to be around for a long time until someone comes up with something that is better.
The big drawback with these is their price point in most instances; especially when the bat is made using 2 or 3-piece construction.
    • Metal alloys
At one time these were by far the most popular style fast-pitch softball bats but they are starting to lose their appeal. As a matter of fact, there is not even one of these in our reviews of the best fast-pitch softball bats. They were causing the balls to be hit so hard that they were becoming dangerous to use.
The biggest drawback with these is they have longevity issues when used in conjunction with fast-pitch softball. Over time they will weaken and dent in most cases. They are not cheap in price so it’s not the type of product you want to replace on a regular basis.
    • Wood
woodThese are the oldest type of material that any style of baseball or softball bat was ever made of. They are also very rarely seen these days and you would be hard-pressed to find one without ordering them directly from a company. This fact makes them a little more expensive than they used to be for sure. Their biggest drawback is you will tend to break them and need to replace them on a regular basis.
  5. Design

Fast-pitch softball bats tend to have different designs too. There are differences in such things as the thickness of the handle, the design of the grip and the length of the sweet spot in the barrel of the bat. Most people will develop personal preferences in these over time.

Things such as a bigger sweet spot may mean that you can make good contact and hit the ball further but it also may make the bat too heavy for you to swing. This is especially true if you are a smaller player who relies on bat speed to make contact with the ball.

So make sure to consider bat design when buying a fast-pitch softball bat for you or your child. It can be critical to your performance at the plate when hitting a fast-pitch softball.Best Fastpitch Softball Bats

  6. Warranty

It’s a fact that softball bats are not always inexpensive and they are not something you want to have to replace at your own expense on a regular basis. That is why you need to select one with as long of a warranty as possible. This becomes even more important as the price you pay for a softball goes up.

So look for a bat that has a warranty that covers that bat against many things and you also want that warranty to be as clearly stated as possible. If you have any warranty questions about a particular bat then call the company and get the answers you need BEFORE you purchase that particular bat.

We cannot emphasize just exactly how important it is to consider the above characteristics of a fast-pitch softball bat before you purchase it. After all, hitting is half of the game of fast-pitch softball. It is something that you really want to do well in order to excel at the sport and by having the right bat you greatly increase your chances of doing that.

3 Mistakes To Avoid When Picking A Fast-Pitch Softball Bat

fastpitch 1Just as there are some things you need to strongly consider when it comes to picking out a fast-pitch softball bat to purchase, so there are some things that you want to greatly avoid doing. Getting the wrong fast-pitch softball bat can be disastrous to your overall game.

  1. Buying a too heavy bat
For much of this article, we have been talking about bat speed and its importance in fast-pitch softball. The ball reaches the batter at incredible speeds once released by a pitcher in the game of fast-pitch softball so you better be able to react in time. A light bat will help you swing faster so you can make contact on a more regular basis. A heavier bat can really slow your swing down.
Many people make the mistake of getting a heavier bat in fast-pitch softball because you can hit the ball further. That is true but you will probably make contact with the pitched softball less often. So resist the temptation to buy a heavier bat an opt instead for buying one you can swing faster.
  2. Buying too long or too short of a bat
Here is another big no-no when it comes to buying a bat for fast-pitch softball. Many players will buy a bat that is either too long or too short. Neither of these will help your game any.
A bat that is too short will not let you reach far enough to hit balls that are pitched in the outer part of the strike zone. A good pitcher will catch on to that right away and strike you out on a regular basis. You bat must be long enough to cover the distance to any ball that is pitched in your batting strike zone.
A bat that is too long for you can hurt you in other ways. For one having a bat that is too long adds unnecessary weight that can really slow down your swing speed. It can also affect your control when swinging because the longer your bat the more cumbersome and awkward your swing potentially becomes.
  3. Don’t buy a bat that is not sanctioned to use in your league
This is one of the most easily overlooked characteristics of a softball bat. There are several sanctioning bodies for fast-pitch softball and not every bat is approved for use in all of them. That means you need to check to see if the bat you want to purchase is approved for the sanctioning body of your league.
Otherwise, you may end up spending a lot of money on a bat you cannot even use in your league. These are just a few more things to keep in mind when shopping for a fast-pitch softball bat. We have talked about trying to get an edge when batting by buying a bat that is a good fit for you so don’t do the opposite and buy a bat that has attributes that will potentially hurt you when you are batting.

Can You Use A Slow-Pitch Softball Bat In Fast-Pitch?

Many people wonder if they can purchase a duel use bat. That simply means buying one that can be used for both the slowpitch and fast-pitch games that they play in. It is an interesting question for sure. Let’s just say that is not a very good thing to do and we will go into a little more detail as to why. Here is a closer look at that scenario.

When we talked about what softball bats were made of we made a note of the fact that almost all of the fast-pitch softball bats these days were being made out of composite material. This is hardly the case for slow-pitch softball bats which are still commonly found made from metal alloys too. We mentioned that metal alloy bats do not hold up well in fast-pitch softball.

There is also the question of weight. You need a lighter weight bat in fast-pitch softball to generate a higher bat speed. The ball comes at you so fast that you need to swing faster to make contact. Slowpitch bats tend to be very heavy because you don’t need to generate bat speed to hit a ball that is lobbed at you. They are typically known as what is called end loaded; which is a term used to describe the extra weight at the end of the bat that a slowpitch bat is designed with. End loaded bats drive the ball further but you swing much slower with them.

So as you can see it is never really a very good idea to try and find a bat that can be used for both slowpitch and fast-pitch softball. Not only is it impractical but many times the bats are not even legal to use in one of the forms of softball.
